Differences between American and Swedish universities
Nearly every youngster living outside the US have a predetermined view of how the university works due to various movies or tv-shows that they have watched. Here’s a list of some differences between American and Swedish universities:
Classes are much smaller and consists of around 20-30 people, and are intended to be much more interactive. In Sweden you’ll find classrooms with more than hundred people, which tend to be a one-way communication between the professor and its students.
Furthermore there are alot more students around campus each day. The reason for that may be due to the fact that attendence in class is reflected on your grade. The seminars are mandatory in Sweden, but most of the lectures are optional, which may be the cause of this disparity.
